School children from Speke-based St Ambrose RC School had all their Christmas wishes come true this week, as Otterspool Adventure and local children’s charity, Cash for Kids came together to gift them a festive school trip they will never forget.
The boys and girls were the first to experience Otterspool Adventure’s Christmas extravaganza, which officially opens to the public later this month.
Transported into a magical winter wonderland for the afternoon, the children got to enjoy a very special Cinderella panto staged by LHK Productions starring Mia Molloy and Britain’s Got Talent star, Lewis Pryor as Buttons, gingerbread-making with Mrs Claus, a make-a-bear workshop, ice rink, storytime session, and a meet and greet and present from Father Christmas.
Cash for Kids is the official charity of Radio City and provides cash grants to local children’s charities and organisations in Liverpool and surrounding areas to support vulnerable children. This event was part of its Mission Christmas campaign.
It was followed by an all-star launch of the Christmas attraction in the evening, attended by the likes of Liverpool boxer Stephen Smith, former-Brookside star, Jennifer Ellison, Hollyoaks star and former Eternal member Kelle Bryan, and their families, plus key sponsor for the evening, actress Tina Malone.
Tina said: “Growing up in a working class area myself, I feel very honoured and lucky to have achieved what I have in my life, and because of this, I believe that it is incredibly important that young children are given opportunities not only to progress, but also to simply have fun and enjoy themselves.
“What Otterspool Adventure and Cash for Kids have done for these pupils at St Ambrose RC School is fantastic and I hope they’ve all had a day that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives. I’d also like to say a huge thanks to everyone who’s donated to Tina’s Bonus at my pub quiz at Ma Egerton’s – without their donations, this also wouldn’t have been possible.”
Liz Daly, admissions and attendance officer at St Ambrose RC School, said: “From the bottom of my heart, I’d just like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in making this possible for our children. It is no secret that we’re located in an incredibly deprived area and sadly a lot of our parents can’t afford to buy tickets to events this time of year; so for these 70 children, this was a treat not only for them, but something for their whole families to savour.”
Steven Cosgrove, managing director at Otterspool Adventure, said: “With thousands of children coming through our doors every year, it is important for us to give back to those families that won’t get to experience something like this at Christmas. It has been an honour working with Cash for Kids – they do some amazing work in the community – and I would personally like to thank them and Tina Malone for helping us make this happen. To see so many smiling faces was unforgettable!”
Laura Charlton, charity manager of Cash for Kids, said: “We are delighted to be working with Otterspool Adventure and we are so grateful that we have been able to bring along children that we support to enjoy this special day out. As our Mission Christmas appeal has launched, the main aim is to keep the magic of Christmas alive for underprivileged children in our local area, and this is exactly what Otterspool Adventure has enabled us to do – so a huge thank you to them!
“I feel very proud to live in a city where we look out for one another and make sure nobody is left behind. Thank you to Tina, Ma Egerton’s and Cheryl and Steven at Otterspool Adventure for making it possible for our local children to experience such a special day.”
